(Note: The Achankovil (or Achenkovil) is a small river in Kerala, India, formed towards the southern tip of the peninsula from the streams of the Rishimala River, Pasukidamettu River and the Ramakkalteri River. This river joins the Pamba River at Veeyapuram in the Alappuzha district of Kerala in South India. Achankovil is also the name of the forest area, which is the catchment area for this river, and of a small town situated in the Achenkovil forest area. The Achankovil town is not easily accessible from the major towns of Kerala, however it can be reached through some forest routes. It is one of the poorly developed areas of Kerala. Recently there has been a plan to convert the seasonal forest routes to Konni and Tenkasi to PWD road. The proposed route connects Konni and Tenkasi with a total distance of about 66 kilometres. This route reduces the distance from Tenkasi to Pathanamthitta and Sabarimala by about 21 kilometres. Most of the parts of the town are yet to be electrified. The River Achankovil nurtures numerous Townships on its fertile banks. Among them, Pathanamthitta Town which is the capital of the Pathanamthitta district, derives its very name from its association with the river. The name Pathanamthitta is derived from two Malayalam words Pathanam and thitta, which together mean "houses by the riverside".)
