The Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) is organising district-level qualifying competitions for the National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) scheduled to be held at Varanasi from December 27 to 31.
Students with innovative projects are directed to participate in the competitions starting after November 15.
‘Energy Exploration and Conservation’ is the theme for NCSC 2012. A press note issued by KSCSTE said students could develop projects centred on the theme. Winning entries would get a chance to win cash awards at the district- and State-level competitions, besides the opportunity to take part at the NCSC and the upcoming Kerala Science Congress. Groups consisting of a maximum of five students could present projects.
In two categories
Participants in the junior category should be aged above 10 years and below 14 years, and in the senior category below 17 years as on December 31, 2012.
Interested children may contact the Science Congress coordinators in their respective districts for more details. The Director of Public Instructions (DPI) has issued a circular to schools in this regard, while the KSCSTE has already conducted work experience programmes for teachers at district- and State-levels.
Winners from each district can take part in the State competitions which will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on November 27 and 28. Sixteen of the best projects will be selected for presentation at the NCSC, and two winners from Varanasi will be able to take part in the Indian Science Congress.
State-level winners will also be given cash awards and an opportunity to showcase their projects at the 25th session of the Kerala Science Congress (KSC) to be held at Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram, from January 29 to February 1, 2013. Winners from State syllabus schools will be eligible for grace marks at Class X and Higher Secondary levels.
